This
seminar explores the history and theory of public
and private garden design in China and Japan, as well
as the reception and re-imagining of Asian gardens
in the Euro-American context. In addition to reading
and writing assignments, the course requirements involve
the communal creation of an Asian garden over
the ten-week period. Enrollment is limited to 10,
with instructor's permission only. There are no prerequisites,
though some knowledge of or background in one or more
of the following is desirable: architecture, art
history, carpentry/ woodworking, computer-aided design,
