The Metrô in São Paulo
“Examining
the Metrô in São Paulo: Joint Dependency by People and the Economy on an Engineering
Success.” A prime example of the networking of an engineering achievement and the
social sciences is the metro system in downtown São Paulo, Brazil.
This study concentrates on the joint dependency on the metro by people
and the economy while also examining two specific engineering topics
--tunnel construction and train propulsion. The dual dependency of people
and the economy on the São Paulo Metrô is circuitous:
People depend on the metro to commute to work and the economy
continuously depends on the people who use it.
The metro interfaces with the economy by providing a fast, reliable,
regular, and safe means of public transportation, albeit primarily for the
middle class.
